At present the critical areas of legislation on a Federal level for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender employees of the Department of Defense (DOD) are:
Repealing of Don't Ask Don't Tell Don't Pursue (DADT) and Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Legislation has been passed and signed into law that hs started the DADT repeal process, but it is fraught with caveats. Our strongest position is that of the Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) lawsuit against DADT.
The Respect for Marriage Act is intended to repeal the horrible Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The President must come out in support of full marriage equality in order for the associated bills to pass. Additionally we cannot win this with only the support from one major political party. We must as a unified force accomplish what was accomplished in NY state to grant our families the legal contractual status of marriage.
Approval and passage of the Employment Non Discrimination Act (ENDA) and the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA). Presently these acts are both in political limbo.
